925 Silver Jewelry Biography

Source(google.com.pk)
he ".925" in sterling silver jewelry indicates that 92.5% of the metal is sterling silver, and the remaining 7.5% are alloy metals that may vary from product to product. Most of our sterling silver jewelry is made from alloys of silver and copper, however, other metals may be present. We purchase from many different vendors and they all have different formulations

If you're looking to purchase affordable sterling silver jewelry, such as silver rings for women and men, then you're in the right place. Sterling silver has adorned people as early as the 12th century, and for good reasons too. While pure silver is too weak to be used to produce items such as jewelry, it is often mixed with stronger alloy metals - creating a fashionable yet sturdy material. Here at Emitations, we've designed a stunning collection of sterling silver jewelry ranging from rings to earrings and pendants to chains. We know how popular sterling silver jewelry is, which is why we constantly update our selection with a variety of pieces. To guarantee that each piece is full of luster many of our pieces are rhodium electroplated. Rhodium electroplating provides jewelry with a high shine finish that closely resembles the look of platinum. While we pride ourselves in utilizing durable sterling silver, we also educate our customers on how to maintain the quality of their jewelry. Buying from expensive department stores doesn't guarantee that sterling silver jewelry will stay shiny forever. Unfortunately, all rhodium electroplating can erode over time. However, unlike many pricey jewelry stores, we do two things to help our customers keep their jewelry looking great. First, we provide you with helpful tips - in the product description or on our blog. We recommend our customers store their jewelry in small plastic bags to preserve the luster of the jewelry when it's stored. Second, our line of jewelry solutions offers buffing towels and cleaning solutions to buff your jewelry and make it look new for as long as possible. With Emitations you get reliable jewelry at affordable prices.

We want to make sure everyone can enjoy fabulous jewelry. Some individuals are sensitive to certain metals, preventing them from dazzling themselves with beautiful accessories. In some cases, people that are allergic to particular metals can even suffer from rashes where the skin comes in contact with jewelry. Other indications that you may be suffering from metal allergies is the discoloration of skin. If you can relate to these issues then Emitations has safe alternatives for you. Our entire line of jewelry is comprised of hypoallergenic pieces that cater to those who have skin sensitivities. We want everyone to enjoy our jewelry without any irritation. Astonishingly, nearly 15% of the population is allergic to nickel. Taking this into consideration, we have designed many of our jewelry to be nickel and lead free, ensuring that safe options exist for every fashionista out there. Many of our customers rely on us as their source for beautiful jewelry that stands the test of time. Whether you're looking for fancy earrings for a night out on the town or you're looking for designer inspired fake engagement rings, we have options that will look good today, tomorrow, and for a long time to come. Not only that, you can rest assured that the jewelry will be comfortable to wear.
What the Heck Does "Sterling" Mean?
We hear and see “sterling silver this” and “sterling silver that” almost every day, yet many shoppers do not understand what it really means. Does “sterling” mean “pure”? Does sterling silver jewelry come from a certain part of the world? Is sterling better or worse – or the same – as pure silver? And what does that stamp on the back of my necklace mean when it says “.925”?

By definition and international agreement “sterling” silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% some other material – usually copper. The 92.5% is why jewelry is often stamped with the numbers 925 or .925.

Why Mix Copper with Pure Silver?
Now you might think, “oh, well that means sterling silver is not as good as pure silver”. Well, yes and no. It certainly isn’t pure, but sterling silver is mixed to this exact ratio for some very good reasons. Have you ever seen pure silver after a few years in the open air? If not, take a look at your grandmother’s silver spoon collection. Silver tends to oxidize (tarnish) quickly, leaving it a yucky brown color. The 7.5% copper or other metals used to make sterling silver slow down the tarnishing process.

Secondly, pure silver is a very soft metal. It can bend or break easily. Adding another, more durable, metal to the mix ensures that your silver jewelry will last a lot longer, and look a lot nicer down the road. So really, sterling silver – although not pure – is usually the better option when choosing jewelry.

And last but not least, adding another metal – and thus making the silver more durable – makes the substance easier for metal-smiths, jewelers and craftsmen to handle and manipulate into those intricate rings, pendants and necklaces we so adore.
So there you go… next time you’re shopping for some new jewelry, or buying an anniversary gift for your girlfriend / wife, you will understand exactly what the salesperson means when they say “This is sterling silver”… even if they don’t.
I was told this in Mexico. Copper is the most commonly used alloy because it is inexpensive, easy to work with, and supposedly produces a composite product that is easy to fashion into jewelry that retains it's shape and is more durable than pure silver would be. I am not certain about the "durable" part...it seems to me that my Mexican 925 silver varies in quality. Perhaps the quality control is not what it should be!

925 Parts Are Pure Silver and the Other 75 parts are Made of Copper
Silver in its purest state, 999.99, is often considered too soft for use in jewellery. Silver is mixed with copper to produce strength. 925 means 925 parts of 999.99 are pure silver and rest 75 parts of copper.
Now why are materials such as copper added to silver? Craftsmen of Sterling Silver Jewelry use the addition of copper to add stabillity and firmness to a particular design.

Sterling Silver Jewelry listed as 925 Silver indicates that the silver item is almost pure silver and considered to the standard for quality Sterling Silver Jewelry. So when your in the market to purchase sterling silver gifts be sure that the item is atleast 925 Sterling Silver. This will garauntee good quality Sterling Silver Jewelry.
