Jewelry Shop Biography
Source(google.com.pk)I came to Anton's because of all the great Yelp reviews. When I got there, the outside looked a bit sketchy and seemed locked, so I called, and to my embarrassment, the outer door was unlocked. I just hadn't tried to open it. Just letting others know that it looks sketchy on the outside (it doesn't even say it's a jewelry shop), because that keeps the folks on the inside safe. Steve usually only goes by appointment.
I brought in an old earring that belonged to my great-grandmother. I had a photo of her wearing the earrings on her wedding day in 1890. Since the other earring had long been lost, I decided to turn it into a pendant necklace that I could wear. This was sort of a "nothing" job for Steve who is a fantastic jewelry artist - but he gave it such great care and even called me when the job was going to be a little more involved to make sure I still wanted to do it and it would cost a few bucks more (like $20 more).
Since it was delicate work that he needed to contract out....he must have made only a small bit of money on the transaction. But I got just as good customer service as anyone else. He really CARES about getting the job done right and to your satisfaction. Not only that, but I brought in some of my old jewelry that I had inherited and he gave me valuable information about the pieces...mostly that none of it was worth much! At least I know now! ha ha
He was so friendly and accommodating - just a great experience. The pendant, by the way, looks BEAUTIFUL. I have not taken it off since I picked it up a few weeks ago.
Now that I know about him, I am going to refer him to my friends and family when they need jewelry work done.
If you want a highly professional, chilled-out, friendly experience where you have an immediate TRUST of the person you are dealing with....go to Steve.
I came across Steve as a result of Yelp. I was looking for a jeweler to make me a mounting for a diamond I had bought for my wife and wanted an engagement ring setting. I had been quoted big bucks by two other jewlers, actually more money than the diamond itself. Steve patiently listened to what I wanted and then guided me into a setting that would guard the stone from chipping or damage and was picked out of a book he had in the store.
My wife was more than thrilled at what he selected for "her" stone.. In fact she was so thrilled she had him do a wedding band accompaniement to the diamond.
He's honest, thinks outside the box (I hate that expression) and is a cost effective provider of jewelery.
I consider Steve as much a friend as I do a jeweler.
will forever be a cheerleader for Anton's Jewelry Shop.
It's a tiny business, and the guys there are honest, knowledgable about what they do, and so sweet. Anton, the owner, is an older man originally from Austria...and will gladly talk your ear off about it if you let him! Steve mostly runs the place, is super chill, and looks like he should be working in a smoke shop or a biker bar. (side note: call ahead if you're stopping by on a whim...just to make sure someone's there!)
Steve helped me fix my grandma's antique jewelry for the wedding, and did a spectacular job.
While i was there back in november i told him i've been looking high and low (ebay, etsy, overstock, you name it) for a simple, understated and elegant gold ring with a single tiny ruby. He thought for a second, then brought out a box of lovely, thin solid gold bands set with sapphires that he had made himself 30 years ago that he just had "sitting in the back". They were so sweet and perfect my throat caught in excitement. He then found me a couple of teeny tiny rubies, told me which were of higher quality, etc...and long story short, he is giving me an amazing deal on the little ruby ring of my dreams!
They've got some BEAUTIFUL jewelry there, rings, brooches, necklaces--new and antique--and i highly recommend going by their shop if you're looking for something special...big or small. Shop small business! You won't be disappointed.
I can't believe I'm the first person to review this place here. I found it through a bunch of good reviews on another site (sorry Yelp), and I'm so glad I did. I needed to replace a missing rhinestone ASAP on a piece of vintage costume jewelry. Not only did Steve get me in right away (he's by appointment only), he fixed it on the spot and only charged me $5!! You'd think that for that little, he might have done a sloppy job, but he took the time to make sure that it looked great, even going so far as to take out what he'd done and start over because he wasn't happy with the first match. I can't speak to his custom design work, but this is a solid local place that I'll trust with all repairs and appraisals I may need in the future.
Great local business! I called ahead and was able to bring my earrings in that day. Steve went above and beyond explaining the work entailed and quoted me a great price. I came back a few days later to pick up my earrings and I couldn't be more pleased! I highly recommend Anton's Jewelry Shop and will return for any future jewelry needs.
Had an old class ring re-sized. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, and despite being appointment only and closing at 5pm, Steve re-sized and polished the ring the same day. Pricing was very reasonable and service was great. Would definitely come back for any future work.
Endris Jewelers is located in the heart of New Albany. The owner, Bob Caesar, recently announced he will be closing up shop.
Caesar said he made the decision because he wants to spend more time with his family and travel. Caesar, who is also a New Albany City Councilman, says keeping up with the big chain stores has been also been challenging.
"There just isn't a jewelry store like this jewelry store," said Caesar. "Very few in area let alone in America."
The store was packed on Wednesday when people heard about the going out of business sale with jewelry items marked down 30 to 70 percent.
"Just sad they are closing," said longtime customer Beverly Karaffa. "They are like friends, you come in and you trust them, and are great to work with."
Caesar said it has been a honor to be a part of something special, that has meant so much to New Albany, and beyond.
"A genuine pleasure to serve the people of Kentuckiana for all these years, a genuine pleasure," said Caesar.
Jewelry, as an art form, has the power to create moods, provoke opinions and produce reactions. This is the design philosophy that New York based jewelry designer Jennifer Kellogg follows in creating and developing her own unique collection of jewelry. Although she uses precious metals and stones in her work, the design is of much greater importance to Jennifer than the intrinsic value of the materials she works with. Her ultimate goal is evoking humor, whimsy and rare imagination through the use of striking color and inventive design in each of her pieces, which is what gives Jennifer Kellogg her signature look.
When the mood strikes to create, Jennifer finds inspiration for her clever designs in familiar and recognizable things from the natural beauty of fresh flowers and the brilliance of diamonds, to the graphic and vibrantly colored icons of the classic slot machine. "Often, it is the materials that can become inspiring and sometimes, it is something else something, that draws you back for a second look. My real passion is to take objects or forms that are not normally seen as jewelry and transform them into clever reinterpretations that are wearable and fun. This is what I feel makes jewelry really, truly memorable and valuable. It's my way of inspiring other people to see that jewelry can be beautiful without having to always conform to what is expected,"explains Kellogg.
Born and raised outside of Washington DC, Jennifer's interest in jewelry design began at the young age of 12 when she found herself making earrings and pins out of painted papier-mâché. But it was quickly becoming apparent that this adolescent pastime was much more than that as Jennifer's talents far exceeded her years. So much so that her work caught the eye of a local woman, who invited young Jennifer to sell her papier-m&aciric;ché jewelry in a boutique near the Capitol. This invaluable experience encouraged Kellogg to continue making jewelry through out high school and over the next few years, she began displaying a flair for fantasy and whimsy in her design and exhibited a remarkable talent for incorporating ordinary objects and materials like seashells and small stones into her work. These were the beginnings of the distinguishing style that can now be found throughout her collection.
In 1993, Jennifer received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she learned the fundamentals of traditional jewelry making and began developing her signature style. Kellogg then moved to Amsterdam where she apprenticed with leading Dutch jeweler Philip Sajet, while continuing to design and exhibit her own works throughout the city of Rotterdam. After declining her acceptance to the Royal College of Art in London, Jennifer moved back to the States for the opportunity to work with American jewelry artist Pat Flynn. During this time, Kellogg refined her pieces into a collection, cultivated her own contacts and started to sell her own work through prominent galleries and shops in the United States. Soon thereafter, the Jennifer Kellogg jewelry brand was launched in 2000. As her young business began to grow, Jennifer's innovative designs quickly caught the attention of her peers and the press alike. Subsequently, she was accepted into the prestigious International Jewelry Designers' Guild in 2001 and to date, her jewelry has been featured in some of the top consumer and trade publications while also appearing on Sex and the City and worn by several celebrities including Gwen Stefani, Paris Hilton, Kelly Osbourne and Amy Sedaris.
