Handcrafted Jewelry Biography
Source(google.com.pk)It all began when I went to a friend's birthday party in the 5th grade. I made a necklace at the party and that was enough to get me started to making more. I spent my summers making jewelry that I would wear for the the entire school year!
I got hooked and could not stop . . . I fell in love with beads. The colors, the textures . . . the creativity!!! As the years passed by I continued making earrings, bracelets and necklaces. I traveled to other countries such as Russia, Mexico, France, Italy, Switzerland and the Dominican Republic. As I traveled, my attention focussed on beads and creative beadwork. I also fell in love with the people and the different cultures. I began putting my hobbie into a reflection of who I was and the places I had been to.
I began making pieces in which I received lots of compliments. After graduating in 2006 from Walla Walla University, friends and family convinced me I should start a side business with making jewelry. I have since sold my pieces at various shows. I am now launching my collection online and I hope you enjoy it!
t was on the beaches of Montauk where Barbara Campbell first became inspired to design jewelry. Stepping across the sand, she discovered the perfect natural rock and wrapped it in wire—creating her very first piece, which the world came to know and love as her signature "Lucky Six" necklace. Barbara Campbell is a visionary Cuban, Jamaica-American woman from Washington Heights who studied entrepreneurship in high school and studied fashion at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) college and went on to enjoy a decade-long career in the beauty industry. Each of her handcrafted pieces is hand-constructed and produced with high-grade materials in her Brooklyn studio in New York. Accompanying Campbell's commitment to exceptional quality is her dedication to the practice of greenmanship, which is why she works with only the finest recycled vintage materials designing limited-edition and one-of-a-kind creations. Yet the designer's philosophy remains simple and elegant. She says with a smile, "You have to put meaning into your creations to make them special and functional. That's what I do—I create from the heart and bring a feeling of love and classic wearability to my collections. I design it with the fashion forward professional, fashionistas and the socialite women in mind. I enjoy the process of design from start to finish and working with all the women I design for." "Nature is my primary source of inspiration. Whether I'm driving down the coast, strolling through a park, or tending my garden, the natural world shows that the creative combinations of colors, textures, patterns, shapes, and symbols are endless."
My aesthetics and philosophy have been shaped by my family, world travel, and the cultural diversity of Northern California.
As a child, I had the rare opportunity to travel extensively with my parents. We always returned home enriched from our travels -- with an appreciation and respect for the uniqueness of different cultures. I was also fortunate to grow up in a home where art and craft were encouraged. My father, an accomplished artist and teacher, was my first and most important mentor. I observed him closely as he perfected his techniques in metal and resin casting, fabrication, and woodworking. After taking a few art classes, I found that I also loved working with my hands and expanded my interests into ceramics and stained glass. While attending college at the University of Michigan, I helped my father develop a successful fused stained glass sculpture business.
I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1990, where I worked in the legal and banking professions...most recently as vice president of finance for The Charles Schwab Corporation. After my father's death in 2003, I re-evaluated my priorities and resolved to rekindle my childhood passion for artisan crafts. The philosophy that has guided my life and work ever since is: Do what you love and explore what you are passionate about."
